Why Engineered Wood
Genuine wood character, minus the weaknesses.
Natural wood siding is beautiful but demanding — it rots, cups, and feeds termites, and it needs constant upkeep. Engineered wood keeps the look homeowners love and engineers out the problems. Wood strands are treated to resist moisture and pests and bonded into boards that carry deep, realistic grain and crisp lap or board-and-batten profiles.
It sits neatly between vinyl and fiber cement: warmer and more authentic than vinyl, lighter and more impact-resistant than fiber cement, and typically kinder to the budget than Hardie. It arrives pre-primed for paint, so you get complete color freedom and the ability to refresh the look years down the road.
As with every siding we install, the durability lives behind the boards: sound sheathing, proper house wrap, and flashing at every opening. Get that right and keep the paint film intact, and engineered wood delivers the real-wood curb appeal for the long haul.

Why Homeowners Choose It
What engineered wood gives you
Authentic wood look
Deep, realistic grain and true lap or board-and-batten profiles — the warmth of real wood without the upkeep of real wood.
Impact resistant
Tougher against dings, hail, and stray baseballs than fiber cement, which can crack on a hard hit.
Moisture & termite treated
Engineered and treated to resist the rot and insects that destroy natural wood siding.
Mid-range value
A genuine wood look for less than fiber cement, and a step up in character from vinyl.
Total color freedom
Pre-primed and painted to any color you like — and repaintable years down the road if your taste changes.
Lighter, faster install
Easier to handle and cut than fiber cement, which keeps the project efficient without sacrificing the look.
How It's Installed
Five steps, and none of them get skipped.
Fast doesn’t mean rushed. Every step below exists because skipping it is what turns a 30-year exterior into one that leaks, rots, or fails in a couple of seasons.
In-home measure & itemized quote
We walk the home, measure every opening and elevation, and help you choose the right material and color. You get a clear, itemized price before any work begins.
Tear-off & inspection
Old siding or windows come off, and we inspect the sheathing and framing underneath — this is where hidden rot, water damage, and missing house wrap turn up.
Repair & weatherproofing
Rotted sheathing is replaced, then house wrap and flashing go on around every window, door, and seam. This unseen layer is what actually keeps water out for decades.
Precise installation
Siding, windows, and trim are installed level, plumb, and properly fastened with the right expansion allowance — sealed and finished so it performs, not just looks good.
Clean-up & walkthrough
We run a magnet for stray nails, haul off all debris, and walk the finished job with you. The home is left weathertight and tidy at the end of every day.
Engineered Wood FAQ
Common engineered wood questions
What is engineered wood siding?
Engineered wood siding — LP SmartSide is the best-known brand — is made from wood strands or fibers bonded with resins and waxes and treated to resist moisture, rot, and termites. It gives you the warm, authentic look and deep grain of real wood, but with far better durability and impact resistance, and it comes pre-primed and ready for paint.
How does engineered wood compare to fiber cement and vinyl?
It's the middle ground. Engineered wood looks more like real wood than vinyl and is lighter and easier to work with than fiber cement, usually landing between the two on price. It's more impact-resistant than fiber cement (it won't crack from a stray baseball) but, being wood-based, it does need to be painted and kept sealed. If you want a genuine wood look at a mid-range cost, it's an excellent choice.
Does engineered wood siding rot or attract termites?
It's specifically engineered to resist both. The wood strands are treated with a zinc borate compound and bonded with resins that repel moisture and deter termites and fungal decay — the weaknesses of natural wood. As with any siding, proper installation, flashing, and keeping the paint film intact are what let it deliver its full lifespan.
Does it need painting?
Yes — engineered wood comes pre-primed and is painted after installation (some lines offer pre-finished options). The upside is total color freedom and the ability to repaint down the road, and quality exterior paint on well-installed siding lasts many years before it needs a refresh. We'll cover the maintenance rhythm so there are no surprises.
